Wunderline’s celebratory maiden journey

Good news! Starting Monday, October 5, everyone can once again take the train between Groningen and Leer. On October 1, a festive inaugural train ride from Groningen to Weener marked the return of train service between the northern Netherlands and northern Germany after a ten-year hiatus. Direct train service had been suspended since 2015 following damage to the Friesenbrücke bridge near Weener.

This celebratory ride on the Wunderline marked the culmination of years of preparation, implementation, and collaboration between the province of Groningen , Land Niedersachsen, Bremen, Deutsche Bahn (DB) en ProRail.
This international rail line is important for travelers, students, commuters, and visitors on both sides of the border. It improves accessibility, is important for the economy, and brings the northern Netherlands and northern Germany closer together. The goal remains to extend the Wunderline all the way to Bremen in the future. In this way, the train will ultimately offer a sustainable and viable alternative to the car.
